Public Service Announcement for International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Thursday June 26

June 26 marks the 17th celebration of International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

On 12 December 1997, the UN General Assembly proclaimed June 26 the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, with a view to the total eradication of torture around the world.

Amnesty International has long campaigned against torture. Thirty years ago, we led the way by campaigning for a global ban on torture. Yet today, many states continue to break the law and lie about it to their own people and to the world.

Torture is even a problem in the US. For example, over 100 men of color were tortured by the Chicago police in a notorious scandal spanning many years. We are campaigning for the survivors of torture in Chicago and around the world to receive justice.

Join the campaign at www.amnestyusa.org/stoptorture or on Twitter, at @Amnesty or hashtag #StopTorture.
